Tips for responsible travel

Los Glaciares National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your visit can help preserve it for future generations.

Leave no trash

Take your trash back with you. Even fruit peels take years to decompose in this cold climate. If you see litter, pick it up.

Stay on the trails

Walk only on marked trails. Going off-path damages the fragile vegetation and can be dangerous near the glaciers.

Wildlife

Do not feed the animals or get too close. Condors, guanacos and foxes are wild and should stay that way.

Glacier water

Meltwater is drinkable but may contain sediment. Bring your reusable bottle and avoid single-use plastic.

Safety on the ice

Never walk on the glacier without a guide. The ice is unpredictable and there are hidden crevasses. Follow your guides’ instructions.

Native flora

Do not pick plants or flowers, especially the calafate berry. Leave everything as you found it so others can enjoy it too.

Get ready for the Patagonian weather

Wind

Constant and strong (30-80 km/h). Bring a windbreaker and secure your belongings.

Temperature

Summer: 5-20°C. Winter: -5 to 5°C. It can change in minutes.

Sun

Always wear sunscreen, even when cloudy. The ice reflection intensifies radiation.

Clothing

Layers: thermal + fleece + windbreaker. Avoid cotton (it doesn’t dry quickly).
